This series of work was created and conceptualized from highlighting South Africa’s vibrant dancing culture.
Pantsula(Kwaito Dance), Breakdancing(Hip Hop) & Xibelani dance (Shibelani).
Very iconic and well recognizable dances in South Africa recognized globally.
It is with this idea that I came to think and ask myself how does one feel & experience when engaged in these artforms?
I came to think that one must forget themselves and get into a space of self-expression and a trance like matter. South Africa, Africa in general, we are notorious for using dance far beyond just it being a form of entertainment.
It can be many things and part of it being a form of communication, spiritual experience and forms of ritual.
Which has brought me to visualized that expression in the work reflecting it in forms of apsychedelic experiences.
